My Adventure in Education
I spent most of my life in Texas. I was raised in the small town of McAllen, Texas in the southern most tip of the state. Before high school, my family and I moved to the Houston area. I attended Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. I graduated from University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and Anthropology. After college, I decided that I wanted to go into education, so I went back to school and received a Master's degree from the University of St. Thomas in Elementary Education.
I spent my first 7 years of my teaching career in third grade and loved every minute! My favorite part of teaching elementary school aged students was the excitement in their eyes when they understood a new concept for the first time! As much as I loved teaching 3rd grade, I was ready for a change. The next leg of my adventure in education led me to teaching 6th and 7th grade Language Arts (English) at the Fort Bend Academy for the Gifted and Talented. This was an amazing experience that allowed me to design my own curriculum and work with some of the greatest minds (both teachers and students) that our town had to offer!
Fast forward 7 years and our whole family was ready for a change! My son had just turned two when we decided to sell our house in Sugar Land and head to Colorado! So, in the summer of 2012, we loaded a U-Haul and some Pods and moved to Castle Rock. I began my adventure at Northridge Elementary that fall as the Intervention Specialist. In this role, I worked closely with our Discovery team and worked to identify, plan services for the school's gifted population. Over the years, I became our school's READ Coordinator, School Assessment Coordinator and one of our Instructional Coaches for new teachers. At the end of the 2016 2017 school year, I was ready to re-enter the classroom so that I could spend more time with students doing what I love most...TEACHING!
I am so excited to be a part of our amazing 3rd grade team here at Northridge! I know this is going to be a great year full of new experiences, lots of laughter and a ton of learning for both me and my classroom of students!

My Family
I live in Castle Rock with my amazing mom and spunky son, Seth. Seth is entering 2nd grade this year and is very excited to have Mrs. Lehnert, a fellow Texan, as his teacher. He is full of energy and always on the move! He shares my love of all things Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean! He also enjoys playing video games, collecting Pokemon cards, reading and playing board games. My sister also lives in Castle Rock and is getting married this spring! When we are not at home (or wedding planning!), we are out enjoying the beautiful scenery and adventures that Colorado has to offer. As a family, we enjoy hiking, skiing, canoeing and working in our vegetable garden.
